Samix,

I wanted to take a moment and "Thank You" for your education.

Listen to NPR today and they brought up "the Lion of Damascus". I got a bit lost, did a search and either don't trust the info or I just don't understand.

It was the "Diane Rehms show" NPR 03/06/2013, got very passionate, lot's of call in(s) from the US Muslim Community.

www.thedianerehmshow.com/

wamu.org/programs/dr

She seems to take on the topic others will not. She has a panel and let's each guest state there opinion and then opens the lines.

If you take the time to listen. Imagine how I almost drove off the road when one caller ask a member of the panel- "Are you drinking the same "Kool Aid"- The "panel" guest response, very even tempered, I'm a "realist" this is what will "happen". WOW

Be Safe and take care-

Thanks again,
Earl

Sorry Samix, maybe I'm not following the "official" story close enough. I thought the West was openly supplying arms to the (so-called) "Rebels" -- and proud of it...?

No Jeff, the west as well as the allies of the west are not supplying any arms to the rebels because they just are not sure about who to give the arms to ? They fear that the arms will fall into the hands of the "Islamists", they learnt this the hard way when the west supplied arms to get rib of Gaddafi and the arms from Gaddafi's warehouses and I suspect as well as the one's supplied by the west was taken away and reached the Islamists in Mali and other spots, thus this time they are very cautious.

In Libya the west did not care about who it was fighting along and aiding in toppling Gaddafi, thus the west aided and abetted Islamists, Secularists, Anarchists ? just to get Gaddafi off the throne, but now they seem to have learnt a lesson.

The rebels have been able to sustain the push using Assads weapons against himself whenever they capture a base or intercept a convoy. Sometimes, what I could glean from some youtube clips, they do not even care about holding the base, they just take the weapons and drive off.

Some western allies are suppling weapons to the "Secular"(Please note according to RAND secular in the Muslim world means anything but Islamist) sections of the FSA, but there are reports where these "Secular" rebels were selling these weapons to the Islamists.

Thanks for the clarification Samix.

Of course this raises a very interesting point of irony. Now many of the same people FIGHTING any kind of "gun control" inside the U.S. have decided that it's a pretty good idea OUTSIDE the U.S.; even in some of their more important "theaters of operations."

Of course this sort of hypocrisy on guns shouldn't surprise anyone, since it simply parallels the U.S. government's hypocrisy on nuclear weapons. If the U.S. builds more nukes and bigger nukes than anyone else -- and drops the odd one on its Enemies -- this is "self-defense". But if any nation proclaimed an "Enemy" tries to build even one nuke they are a "rogue regime".

France/Britain push to arm Syrian "rebels" 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 262
So much for what was written here recently about these regimes showing "restraint" when it comes to officially shipping arms to their Thugs in Syria seeking to overthrow the Assad regime. Truly an example of "Meet the New Boss; same as the Old Boss" should the West get its way.

However, when France and Britain tried to get an EU arms "embargo" lifted to allow official shipments of weapons into Syria they found "little support for their proposal".

I guess they'll be forced to continue arming the "rebels" unofficially...

EU rejects Franco-British push on arms for Syrian rebels

www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/15/us-sy...dUSBRE92E09J20130315

(Reuters) - European Union governments rejected a Franco-British push on Friday to lift an EU arms embargo to allow weapons supplies to Syrian rebels, voicing fears this could spark an arms race and worsen regional instability.

France and Britain found little support for their proposal to ease the embargo at an EU summit in Brussels, EU diplomats said, although they asked the bloc's foreign ministers to look again at the issue next week.

"Nobody really is interested (in lifting the embargo)," an EU diplomat said. "There is no prospect of change any time soon."

EU governments want to support rebels waging a two-year uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. But many expressed fears on Friday that allowing weapons to flow to rebels could lead to weapons falling into the wrong hands - especially Islamist militants in the rebel ranks - and lead Assad's backers to step up arms deliveries to his government.

European Council President Herman van Rompuy said leaders had asked their foreign ministers to look at the issue "as a matter of priority" at a March 22-23 meeting in Dublin.

The arms ban is part of a package of EU sanctions on Syria that rolls over every three months. An extension agreed last month expires on June 1. Without unanimous agreement to renew or amend it, the embargo lapses, along with the sanctions.

The US has started to identify drone strike targets inside of Syria, so once Bashar al Assad is out, we will have the US start drone striking "terrorists" from Jabhat Al Nusrah

The CIA has stepped up secret contingency planning to protect the United States and its allies as the turmoil expands in Syria, including collecting intelligence on Islamic extremists for the first time for possible lethal drone strikes, according to current and former U.S. officials.

President Obama has not authorized drone missile strikes in Syria, however, and none are under consideration.

In this news item, Al Arabiya, which is a pro-western news site, identifies, precisely the military chain of command in Syria that is connected to the west.

he chief of Syria’s main, Western-backed rebel group marked the second anniversary of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad by pledging on Friday to continue fighting until the “criminal” regime is gone.

Gen. Salim Idris, the head of the Supreme Military Council, called on Syrian soldiers to join the rebels in a “fight for freedom and democracy” and said that his Free Syrian Army fighters “will not give up.”

english.alarabiya.net/en/News/2013/03/15...criminal-regime.html

If these groups are unable to defeat the Islamist fighters and take power in Damascus, then I think the west will try to fuel a proxy war using these elements.

Considering that the US is already trying to identify drone targets in Syria also ties into the chances of trying to flare this civil war. Wonder what will it be called this time, the west cannot call it sectarian because there is no Shia Sunni dynamics involved here. I think the west may try to sell this war as a war netween "Democracy and extremist Islam"

Samix, at least the West's murderous agenda in Syria now seems well-advanced enough to start drawing some preliminary conclusions.

No big surprises here, since it's what we have discussed in the past. Plan "A" is obviously to make Syria another Arab Puppet "client regime" of the U.S./UK/Israel Axis of Evil. Plan "B" is to make Syria another failed-state (like Iraq) -- and then the West can turn Syria into a terrorist-factory to (supposedly) "justify" continuing its War on Terror.

Remember: with this phony war; it requires continual NEW acts of Western military aggression in order to CREATE the "terrorists" they are supposedly "defending themselves" against.

This is preposterous! Even from a tactical point of view, the west seems to have lost it's mind! How can a US citizen be made a puppet prime minister of Syria ??

Syria's main opposition group elected a naturalized US citizen early on Tuesday as the first prime minister of its planned interim government, hoping to establish administrative authority in areas of northern Syria that have been secured by insurgents fighting President Bashar Al Assad.

I wonder if they were selecting a interim prime minister or a Pope
The vote came after some 14 hours of closed-door consultations among 70-odd Coalition members, with some members describing Hitto as a consensus candidate pleasing both the opposition’s Islamist and liberal factions.

Remember Samix that we have been dealing with TWO operational hypotheses about what the West's Axis of Evil has planned for Syria:

1) Puppet client-state
2) Failed-state and new terrorist "factory"

No doubt this situation appears totally ridiculous with respect to Plan A. However, it looks like a pretty good idea if you're a "Plan B" proponent...

Remember that the Fascists need "more terrorists" or their phony, sham-war will starve itself to death.

So true Jeff, one astute observer from one of the forums had this to say.
Those who do not support this new "government" will be declared as rebels and terrorists who are against the rule of law and they will be fought.

You see, every time that the west sets up a new "government", the people are expected to submit to it immediately and unconditionally.

They will probably bring in "peace keeping troops" in "government" friendly areas. The ones that are already stationed along the Turkish border. They're not there to protect Turkey, they're just waiting for the right moment to enter into Syria.

It does not matter that the majority of the people in Syria fighting are doing so more out of religious conviction, the west wants to impose a secular texan on them them.

The new Syrian opposition prime minister Ghassan al-Hitto “is more Texan than Muslim Brotherhood,” Washington’s envoy to Syria Robert Ford told U.S. lawmakers Wednesday.

Dismissing concerns at a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Ford insisted that Hitto, narrowly elected this week by the Syrian National Coalition as interim premier, was “not a religious extremist -- far from it.”

How ironic is it that the west has to dismiss concerns about their chosen puppet that he does not have to do much with Islam, to rule a Islamic people.

“I’ve met him twice... and he struck me as more Texan than Muslim Brotherhood, frankly,” Ford said of Hitto, a former IT executive who has lived in the southwestern U.S. state of Texas for decades.

“I don’t know what his political affiliations are. But I do know that he also has a tolerant vision of Syrian society,” Ford stressed.

“He has, at some self-sacrifice, gone over to help with the humanitarian crisis in Syria. He did not have to do that.”

Things like an unknown unaffiliated person who was once just a normal IT guy getting elected as the head of a country like Syria because he helped some Syrian refugees only happens in films.
