Well, it’s been a tough six months for mining investors, and equally so for the 100+ contestants for the 2011-12 Great Panther Silver Miners Challenge. Despite the extremely profitable (and in many cases record) results for these mining companies, we have seen the sector generally grinding lower – in the worst stretch for these miners since the Crash of ’08.

However, even with the strong “headwinds” that these miners faced, both of our top two performers managed to more than double in price over our six month contest, while the 3^rd place finisher posted a very respectable 97% gain. Behind them, ten other miners picked by our contestants recorded gains of 40% or more over these six months.

Of course none of this would have been possible without the generous sponsorship of our contest by Great Panther Silver. Not only did Great Panther cover the cost of our contest prizes, but they actually provided the prizes themselves – out of their own inventory of silver bullion products.

As a reminder to our contestants (and for any who missed the original announcement of our contest), here is a list of the prizes being awarded to our contestants:

And now to end the suspense, here are our top-three mining companies and the contestants who picked them:

1^st place:   Unigold Inc  (“Valero”)

2^nd place:  Silvercrest Mines  (“Investorquest”)

3^rd place:  Rye Patch Gold  (“Pioneerurban”)

Congratulations to our three, final winners; and a double-congratulation to Pioneerurban, who added a prize as our halfway leader to his third-place finish. And thank you to the 100+ contestants who participated in our contest.

We look forward to hosting next year’s Miners Challenge, and hope many/most of you will return to compete again for our next contest. To those who didn’t win a prize this time around, I would like to note that our winning mining company was one of the last of the 100+ miners chosen by our contestants – the day before the contest began.
